Lotaos Jackfruit awarded as trend product 2019
Anuga/Cologne, October 4, 2019.
At this year's Anuga, the leading international trade fair for the global food industry, Lotao was awarded the prestigious “Anuga taste” award. The provider of organic Asian delicatessen specialties received the title for its product “Flying Jack”, a vegan organic jackfruit salad from the fresh food shelf. An expert jury made up of journalists and market researchers chose the product released in 2019 as the top innovation in the industry from among all the new products.
Since 2018, the company has been presenting innovations and new creations in the meat-free convenience product segment under its own brand “Lotao Green”. The focus of product development is the trendy fruit jackfruit, which is considered one of the absolute new discoveries in the industry when it comes to meat alternatives. When unripe, the largest tree fruit in the world can hardly be distinguished from poultry meat in terms of consistency and texture and, thanks to its good nutritional values, is ideal for a low-calorie, high-fiber diet. Lotao sources the jackfruit from 100 percent organic cultivation from Indian farmers' cooperatives, where it is harvested by hand and, after removing the peel, is processed into pieces and sent in portions.
Jens Pöhnisch, Head of Sales Lotao, for the honor:
“The award makes it clear that jackfruit is becoming increasingly important in the meat substitute product segment. We are very pleased to be able to present further product innovations at Anuga 2019, such as vegan jackfruit fresh cream rolls and the “Indian Jack” curry salad, which further illustrate the benefits and diversity of the fruit.”Organic jackfruit salads from the fresh food aisle
The “Jackfruit Flying Jack” salad, consisting of young organic jackfruit, has a consistency reminiscent of poultry meat and is rich in minerals and fiber. The jackfruit is refined with mandarin and spices to create a tasty delicacy similar to a traditional chicken salad. In addition to the proven winner of the “Anuga taste” award, Lotao is presenting another organic jackfruit salad at the trade fair. The “Indian Jack” variety combines the young jackfruit with dark lentils and pineapple pieces. The result is a curry salad with an exotic, sweet and sour taste. The Lotao Green salads are available in 150 gram packaging in well-stocked organic and grocery stores for EUR 2.49 each (RRP).
The plant-based alternative to cream cheese
At Anuga, Lotao is presenting its vegan fresh cream rolls with pure jackfruit protein for the first time. The mild fresh cream rolls are enriched with fiber and protein, but contain little salt. To obtain jackfruit protein, Lotao relies on an innovative process in which the purely plant-based protein of the young jackfruit is isolated. By removing disturbing aromas, a taste-neutral protein is obtained, which, in combination with high-quality coconut fat, serves as an ideal flavor carrier for fresh cream products. The Lotao Green fresh cream rolls in the flavors herb, pepper and pineapple hazelnut are now available in 100 gram packaging in well-stocked organic and grocery stores.About LPP Lotao Pack- und Produktions GmbH
